The Price Is Right fans think it is time for the game show to get an upgrade. With Season 55 approaching, some fans think that it’s time to refurbish some of the longest-running games.
“Any games y’all wanna see refurbished?” a Reddit user asked. “For me, I want to see an updated Punch-A-Bunch. I love the game, but I kinda wish they would use more LED lighting.” In Punch-A-Bunch, contestants punch “a bunch” of paper slips that have dollar amounts behind them. To earn a punch, the contestant has to figure out whether the price shown on the item is actually higher or lower. However, the number they get right is how many punches they earn.
“Second is Race Game because they’ve been having some malfunctions with the screen not showing the number right away,” the poster shared. In this game, the contestant is given 45 seconds to try to place the correct price of four different items. They have to hit the buzzer to see if they are correct. They can keep trying until time runs out. They win whatever prizes they have priced correctly.
“Another one I wanna see is Now or Then or Check Out since I feel like those and other games have outdated looks and need a touch-up, but what do y’all think?” they ended. In Now or Then, the game show contestant has to guess whether the price shown for the item is the now price or the price from the year they were given. To win, the contestant must correctly guess three items next to each other on the wheel.
Some fans agreed with Now and Then and think that the wedge lights are overpowered by the stage lights. Many others said they don’t like the digital components being added to the game. Another fan said that The Race Game should definitely be refurbished since the egg timer had multiple issues when Bob Barker hosted.
Other fans said that Pathfinder, The Check Game, and Money Game all need changes. “I would like to see Money Game go digital,” one fan said. Money Game allows the contestant to win a car and smaller prizes. They have to try to guess the first and last two numbers of the car after being given the middle number. If the numbers they pick have a car symbol behind them, they are correct and take home the vehicle.
“I think that the big wheel needs to be rebuilt. The current one is barely hanging on as it is now,” one fan said about the Showcase wheel.
“I feel like the vast majority of the games need an overhaul. The Check Game I can see disappearing completely because absolutely no one seems to know how to even play the game,” one fan said. The Check Game is where contestants write an amount on a big check that equals between $8,000 and $9,000 after being shown the price of a prize.
“Time is Money (had to look it up because I don’t like the game) should be retired, it’s a mix of an accident waiting to happen, and not a single person ever tries to formulate a plan of low, middle, high, and then secondary choices if they’re wrong. They spend more time holding the items and looking blankly at the audience while the clock runs down,” the fan continued.
In Time Is Money, the contestant has to place items on podiums that have prices underneath of them. They must place all of the items in the correct price within a certain amount of time to win $20,000. The money clock counts down until they are correct, and they are left with whatever amount is still on the clock.
