Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos spark an emotional wave as they step out to support their son Joaquin at the opening night of Death of a Salesman, turning a proud family moment into a powerful spotlight on legacy and pressure. Joaquin Consuelos celebrated a major milestone on Thursday, April 9: the opening of his first Broadway show.

The actor is starring in Joe Mantello’s superb revival of Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman opposite Tony Award winners Nathan Lane and Laurie Metcalf.

It’s a huge role for any actor, but a major achievement for the 23-year-old newcomer, who just graduated from the University of Michigan’s School of Music, Theatre & Dance in May 2025.

Supporting him for his big night were parents Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, who all posed together at the afterparty, held at Katz’s Deli.

The proud duo have been gushing about their son’s gig on Live with Kelly and Mark.

“It was unbelievable,” Ripa, 55, said of the play, after seeing the show on March 10. “The entire production is incredible and just to see Joaquin up there took my breath away. Took my breath away. Incredible, incredible cast, production, staging — the whole thing.”

“Just to see our kid on stage thrilled me,” Ripa said. “It’s crazy. Doesn’t make any sense. … If you would have told me when he was a newborn, ‘Oh 22 years from now he’ll be starring on Broadway in Death of a Salesman, I would have thought you were on drugs.”

Mark, 55, is also making his Broadway debut this season. He appears in the Roundabout Theatre Company’s revival of Noël Coward’s Fallen Angels, starring Oscar-nominee Rose Byrne and Tony Award-winner Kelli O’Hara. The comedy began previews on March 27 and will officially open on April 19.

He saw Joaquin’s performance earlier than his wife, attending the show’s first preview on March 6 after being encouraged by his Fallen Angels costars not to miss it. “There’s only one first time,” he recalled them telling him.

The only reason Ripa missed it was because Joaquin had asked her not to attend. “I was not permitted to come,” the daytime talk show host said on Live a few days later. “I said to him, ‘I want to come to first preview.’ And he said, ‘Mom, no. … It’s previews. Just wait ’til opening night.’ [So] I respected his wishes.”

Instead she headed out of town — and Mark, who stayed behind for Fallen Angels rehearsals — bought a ticket and surprised his son.

“He’s amazing. He did such a good job,” Mark shared, noting that he “did not blink” during the three-hour play. “I was watching him with a smile on my face. And [I] cried.”

“It’s an amazing play,” the Riverdale star added. “If you’re in New York, please go see this play.”

Death of a Salesman follows aging salesman Willy Loman (Lane), who confronts his failing career, fractured family relationships and the unraveling promise of the American dream throughout the course of the place. Metcalf plays Linda, the moral center of the Loman household and the person most attuned to Willy’s inner turmoil.

Christopher Abbott and Ben Ahlers also star in the play, as Willy and Linda’s sons Biff and Happy, respectively. Joaquin plays the younger version of Biff in flashbacks.

Jonathan Cake, K. Todd Freeman, John Drea, Tasha Lawrence, Jake Silbermann, Michael Benjamin Washington, Joaquin Consuelos, Jake Termine, Karl Green, Jack Falahee, Katherine Romans, Mary Neely, Aidan Cazeau, Charlie Niccolini, Alexis Bronkovic, Erik Kilpatrick and Brendan Donaldson complete the cast.
