NEED TO KNOW
- Jeopardy! champion Jamie Ding, who just became the fifth all-time consecutive winner on the show, and his sister Jessie run an Instagram account reviewing General Tso’s chicken
- The siblings have reviewed the dish online since 2016 across the country (and beyond)
- Jessie told PEOPLE that more fans follow the account after each Jeopardy! episode and even send local recommendations for the siblings to try
Jamie Ding is not only the fifth all-time record-holder in consecutive Jeopardy! wins, but also a General Tso’s chicken connoisseur.
Jamie, who just won his 29th consecutive game, runs a General Tso’s chicken review account with his sister, Jessie, called @attorneygeneraltsos. A clip shared on the account shows Ken Jennings asking Jamie about their Instagram page.
“Is this the official General Tso’s chicken account?” Jennings asked.
“Not yet,” Jamie joked. The caption of the video said that “we’re slowly becoming the Official General Tso’s Chicken account.”
Because Jamie and his sister have ordered General Tso’s all the time since they were kids, it “became our measuring stick for the quality of the Chinese restaurant,” he said. He added that he came up with the name, but his sister, Jessie, mostly runs the account.
Jessie, who has graduated law school and passed the bar, told PEOPLE the name inadvertently came to reflect her and her brother, who is currently a law student – Jamie came up with the name “Attorney General Tso’s” long before either of them entered law school, she said.
“It’s actually just very funny that we’re both becoming attorneys,” she said.
Jessie said the siblings have been ordering General Tso’s chicken every time they go to a Chinese restaurant since they were little.

“I genuinely can’t even remember a time where we didn’t,” she said. “Thankfully our parents were willing to also humor us by letting us order it.”
Jessie said that the siblings were joking around initially about keeping a record of all the chicken they’ve consumed and debated starting a blog. Since it was 2016, they questioned “do people even read blogs these days” and decided to start an Instagram account instead.
She said their first formal review was at a Chinese buffet in Ypsilanti, Mich. in 2016.
“Not bad. Asia City uses dark meat which makes it taste a lot better. Flavor wise, it’s both spicy and sweet; sweetness is a little overpowering at first but you’re left with a nice spicy aftertaste,” the caption of the May 30, 2016 post reads.
“Nice bite-size pieces for the most part. It’s an appealing dark brown color (can dark brown be appealing?). Excellent breading to chicken ratio, and it’s neither dry nor stringy,” it continues.
The caption aligned with the characteristics of General Tso’s chicken that Jessie explained the siblings look out for.
“We’re big fans of dark meat,” Jessie said, sharing that she “immediately” knocks a place down a few points if they serve white meat.
“I like it a little spicier, especially because they always advertise it with little chili peppers on the menu,” she explained. “If you’re gonna tell me it’s spicy, it better be spicy. But it needs to still be a little bit sweet.”
She also explained that the siblings prefer smaller chunks of chicken. She also noted an industry secret the pair have learned over time.
“You can always tell when it’s been like fried twice,” she revealed. “It tastes a little bit old. So it also just needs to be fried the perfect amount.”
Jessie said their favorite hometown local General Tso’s chicken is at Michigan spot Trizest Restaurant.
She said Jamie is “less inclined to call a place his favorite,” but they tried a place in Princeton, N.J. recently that they both liked.
While the two try different versions of the dish because they live in different states, Jessie is the one mainly posting the photos, writing captions and answering direct messages. She says she tries to make it clear when people reach out to her that they are not talking to Jamie. However, she does share the messages with her brother.
After winning his 29th game, Jamie told PEOPLE that “so many people have been rooting for me and reaching out to me.”
He shared that he wants to use his winnings, which total to $793,000 so far, to help others – “some organizations could really use the money because the federal government is making so many cuts and things are getting so expensive and it’s a tough time out there for so many people,” he said.
Jamie and Jessie are the children of immigrant parents from China. Jamie said, “I haven’t committed to anything definitive yet, but it’s tough out there for immigrants. I’ve always wanted to be doing good things for others and now I’ll have significantly more power to do that.”
Jessie said, laughing, that the General Tso’s account always gets an “influx of followers” after each new episode of Jeopardy! that Jamie wins.
She said lots of people have been reaching out, sharing their local Chinese restaurants for the siblings to try, which she finds “really cute.”
One woman from Rhode Island heard Jamie mention the state in an anecdote on Jeopardy! and “very passionately” shared a local spot to try and tagged the restaurant, which also responded. Jessie said she is going to Rhode Island over the summer and hopes to try the spot.
She also wants to start a spreadsheet and keep track of all the recommendations – which, by the way, she and Jamie are open to.
Jessie shared that it’s “very surreal” to watch her brother’s success on the show.
“I’m barely involved in this, so I can’t even imagine how he’s feeling,” she said, adding that she’s “just feeling immensely proud of him.”
“He’s really good and really smart, and I really like seeing him being appreciated,” she said.
