Whoopi Goldberg Announces The View Hiatus — The Surprising Reason She’s Stepping Away From The Hot Topics Table
Whoopi Goldberg is taking a temporary break from The View, but fans don’t need to worry — the EGOT-winning star is not leaving the daytime favourite behind.
The beloved moderator revealed that her upcoming absence from the Hot Topics table is due to a new acting project that will take her away from the show for a short period.
While viewers are used to seeing Whoopi guide some of The View’s biggest conversations, the reason behind her hiatus has sparked excitement among fans — she is stepping back in front of the camera for a major Netflix movie featuring an impressive Hollywood cast.
Why Whoopi Is Leaving The View Temporarily
Whoopi explained that she will be away for around two weeks while filming the upcoming Netflix movie Women Like Us, a project produced by Barack Obama and Michelle Obama.
The film reunites Whoopi with several familiar faces, including Vivica A. Fox, Vanessa Williams and her Sister Act co-star Jenifer Lewis.
Speaking about the project, Whoopi described the story as being about friendship, change, ageing and finding the people who truly understand you.
“It’s about finding your people,” she said, sharing her excitement about returning to acting.
A Different Face At The Hot Topics Table
During Whoopi’s absence, The View will bring back several former cohosts to temporarily fill her seat.
Lisa Ling, Star Jones, Sherri Shepherd and Debbie Matenopoulos are expected to step in during the two-week break, while longtime panelist Joy Behar will take over as moderator.
The change means viewers will see a very different dynamic at the famous Hot Topics table — at least until Whoopi returns.
Whoopi’s Hollywood Career Continues
Although Whoopi is best known today as the face of The View, she has continued balancing television with film and other acting projects throughout the years.
She has previously taken breaks from the show to work on projects including international productions and television adaptations.
The actress has often said that one of the reasons she enjoys The View is because it allows her the flexibility to continue pursuing roles outside daytime television.
A Major New Chapter For The Hollywood Icon
At 70, Whoopi Goldberg continues to prove she has no plans to slow down.
From winning an Oscar, Emmy, Grammy and Tony to becoming one of daytime television’s most recognisable personalities, her career has crossed generations.
