NEED TO KNOW
- Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce donated $26 million to multiple food banks during a time of heightened food insecurity, a rep for the singer told PEOPLE
- Their contributions also supported education, animal welfare and pediatric cancer care, benefiting thousands across the U.S.
- Nonprofits described the donations as transformative, with some leaders initially in disbelief over the unexpected generosity
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce haven’t just been planning a wedding. They quietly set off a chain reaction of generosity that left staff at some American nonprofits stunned, emotional, and, in at least one case, literally speechless.
On July 2, a rep for Swift told PEOPLE that the couple had made an astounding $26 million in donations to various charitable organizations.
The superstar and football player, both 36, are known for supporting charitable causes long before this latest wave of donations. Swift has built a long track record of giving across education, disaster relief, food insecurity, and music programs, often contributing quietly or stepping in quickly during moments of urgent need. Kelce has also focused his philanthropy on youth development and community support through his foundation work, backing programs aimed at empowering underserved kids and strengthening local communities.
Across food banks, children’s hospitals, education nonprofits and animal welfare organizations, leaders say they learned about the couple’s sweeping charitable donations the same way: suddenly, directly and often through a phone call or message that didn’t quite feel real at first.

At City Harvest, New York City’s largest food rescue organization, the news landed like a lifeline at a critical moment. The organization confirmed a $1 million donation from the couple, which its CEO says will help provide food to more than 2.4 million New Yorkers this summer. The timing, leaders say, couldn’t be more urgent.
As City Harvest CEO Jilly Stephens put it, “We are incredibly grateful for Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s generous $1 million donation to City Harvest. This donation is a love letter to New York, and a bold commitment to our efforts to ensure that no New Yorker goes hungry. Their support comes at a critical time, with visits to New York City soup kitchens and food pantries near record highs and expected to increase further in response to federal funding cuts.”
That sense of urgency echoed across every organization that received a gift.
In Kansas City, Harvesters—The Community Food Network confirmed another $1 million donation, equivalent to roughly 2 million meals. Matt Hamer, communications manager at Harvesters, said the need in the region has rarely been higher. Swift and Kelce’s donation, he notes, comes “at an incredible time, as food insecurity is higher than it’s been in a decade, with 1 in 7 individuals and 1 in 6 children in our service area experiencing hunger.”
But for some, the moment the gift arrived was almost surreal.
For the Rhode Island Community Food Bank, CEO Melissa Cherney describes the initial reaction as disbelief, followed quickly by a scramble to confirm what they were hearing. “As soon as we got the call, a couple of our staff had a moment of disbelief and we were speechless,” she tells PEOPLE. “We felt like we needed to pinch each other because it was sort of our wildest dreams come true if I could use a Taylor Swift song.”
“It happened just yesterday. We got a call actually from Feeding America, the national organization, which is also a wonderful organization that got a donation, and they called us and said, ‘Boy, have we got some exciting news for you,'”Cherney adds. “And they connected us with a member of Taylor’s team, and really from there, the ball just started rolling and it’s been really quick. It was sort of all hands on deck and we’re just running on excitement and adrenaline because this is absolutely incredible.”

She adds, “A $ 1,000,000 gift is certainly one of the largest gifts we have ever gotten here at the Rhode Island Community Food Bank, and it comes at such a time of high need across the summer. And I know there are rumored nuptials happening this weekend, and this just goes to show how generous and kind they are, giving back to communities that they call home.”
“This $1,000,000 will be used to purchase food,” she explains. “That is our highest need, and right now, during the summer, we’re serving over 90,000 Rhode Islanders. And we’re serving a lot of kids, so we are serving meals right now to about 500 kids five days a week. This is gonna go to support all of them, to make sure that they’ve got food on their tables and that kids are going to bed with full bellies.”
The surprise also reached the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank a day before the news became public. Chief Development Officer Roger Castle says Swift’s management team called to share that the couple would be making donations across the country—including a $1 million gift to the organization, which he described as “a fantastic Wednesday before the holiday weekend.”
Castle recalled interrupting a management meeting after taking the call: “I said, ‘I hate to steal your thunder. The reason I was late to this meeting is that I just got a call from Taylor Swift’s management company that we’re going to get $1,000,000.’ Everybody was like, ‘You can be late to a call anytime, Roger, if this is going to the news you’re going to bring us.'” He later walked through the warehouse sharing the news, saying staff were “super excited that this is the way Travis and Taylor are celebrating their love story.”
Castle wasn’t entirely surprised to hear from Swift, noting she’d previously supported the food bank and encouraged donations during the Los Angeles wildfires, but the size of the gift still stunned him. “The amount is incredible, and it’s going to help a lot of people in Los Angeles County,” he said. The donation will help provide approximately 4 million meals to Angelenos facing food insecurity.
The same pattern repeated for fellow recipients.
At the Grammy Museum Foundation, leadership emphasized the impact on education programs nationwide. Michael Sticka, President and CEO, said in a statement, “We are deeply grateful to Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce for their extraordinary generosity and support of our Grammy In The Schools education program. Their transformative gift will help expand our mission of bringing music education to students across the country, creating opportunities that will inspire and empower thousands of young people for years to come.”
At Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Dr. Selwyn M. Vickers, MD, FACS, President and CEO, said the donation carries special meaning for pediatric patients and families. “We’re heartened that Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce chose to mark this joyful moment in their lives by giving to MSK Kids, the pediatric program at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center,” Vickers said in a statement. “Their generous gift directly supports the clinical care and translational research that drive better outcomes for our youngest patients. Our MSK community is grateful for their kindness, moved by their compassion, and are honored to celebrate with them as they begin this wonderful new chapter.”

From Nashville, The Store — co-founded by Swift’s former tour-mate Brad Paisley and his wife, actress Kimberly Williams-Paisley — said the gift will help support neighbors facing food insecurity, calling it a meaningful act of community care.
“We’re truly inspired by Taylor and Travis’s generosity to so many wonderful organizations, and extremely grateful that The Store is included among them,” the couple said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE. “This gift will go a long way toward helping our neighbors facing food insecurity in Nashville. What a beautiful way to celebrate the beginning of a marriage!”
Other organizations echoed similar sentiments. The ASPCA said the donation will help expand access to veterinary care and strengthen shelter and rescue efforts, while After-School All-Stars described a $2 million gift that will support programs in Cleveland and New York, giving students safe spaces, mentorship, and enrichment opportunities after school.

“We believe every young person deserves the chance to discover what they are capable of,” After-School All-Stars CEO Ben Paul said. “Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce understand the power of hard work, confidence, and encouragement, qualities we work to build in our students every day. Their extraordinary generosity will help ensure that even more students have safe places to learn, grow, build relationships, and see a future filled with possibility.”
After-School All-Stars President Andrea Bazán added, “This gift comes at a time when access to after-school programs is more important than ever. We know that when young people are surrounded by caring adults, their lives are transformed. We’re thankful to Taylor and Travis for also believing in our programs, and extend our heartfelt congratulations on their wedding. We are humbled and deeply grateful. This extraordinary gift will make a lasting difference for our students and families.”

At Memorial Sloan Kettering, another statement from MSK Kids captured the emotional weight of the gift: “On behalf of all of us at MSK Kids, I want to thank Taylor and Travis for their extraordinary generosity — made all the more moving because it comes at such a joyful moment in their own lives. As the pediatric cancer program of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK), we have the privilege of caring for the youngest and most vulnerable cancer patients: children for whom we strive not only to provide the best possible treatment, but to surround with comfort, hope, and care for the whole family.”
MSK continued, “Taylor has long held a special place in the hearts of our young patients, bringing them joy through her visits and lifting their spirits when they needed it most. Now, with this remarkable gift, she and Travis will help us continue to offer hope to families in some of their darkest moments — a gift that reflects not only their deep generosity, but the sincerity of their commitment to the causes they hold dear.”
At Children’s Mercy Hospital, the reaction was immediate and emotional after learning the rumor was true. On Instagram, the hospital wrote, “The rumor about @taylorswift and @killatrav ? It’s true. And we heard it with our own happy hearts. 💛✨❤️ Their incredible gift will help bring more comfort, joy and ‘just be a kid’ moments to Children’s Mercy, supporting the programs, services and care that make hospital days brighter for kids and families. More comfort. More magic. More reminders that our kids are seen, supported and surrounded by love.”
They added, “Friendship bracelets, end-zone dances and a whole lot of gratitude —Taylor and Travis, we’re in our grateful era. ✨ Thank you.”
