The Princess of Wales has turned to a trending pastel shade for her latest appearance.
Following the soft cornflower blue Catherine wore for Trooping the Colour on June 13, she has now shifted along the colour spectrum to the butter yellow hue that has fast become a staple of a well-built contemporary wardrobe.
Her custom Patrick Mcdowell dress coat and matching wide-brim Jane Taylor hat were perfectly placed for the June date of the annual Order of the Garter service, always held at Windsor Castle.
The soft yellow shade of the coat felt like a nod to the start of summer, not least when the pattern of the coat’s jacquard fabric caught the light and revealed a subtle floral motif. The fabric was woven especially for Catherine by Stephen Walters & Sons in Suffolk.
In terms of silhouette, Catherine opted for something sharper than we usually see her wear. The Patrick McDowell Wales coat is complete with neat structured shoulders while exaggerated pockets at the hip create a directional, hourglass silhouette. It ensured that the classic fabrication could remain feeling modern and fresh for the princess.
Through this dress coat, McDowell’s relationship with the Princess of Wales comes full circle. Last May, Catherine presented the designer with the Queen Elizabeth Award for British Design. A statement from the brand confirmed that the coat was indeed custom for Her Royal Highness and was made and designed in England.
