Dolly Parton’s family gathered at her Nashville burial site on Friday morning as they prepared to say a private goodbye to the country music legend.
About a dozen relatives were seen arriving at Woodlawn Memorial Park and Mausoleum, where Dolly is expected to be laid to rest beside her husband, Carl Dean. The group appeared somber as they arrived carrying flowers and spending time together at the funeral home.
Among those present was Dolly’s nephew Bryan Seaver, who also served as her head of security and previously announced her death on behalf of the family.
Seaver appeared to help coordinate the gathering, speaking with police and security officers and greeting relatives as they arrived. One insider said the cemetery was surrounded by police shortly before the family arrived, with one officer reportedly telling them, “The family is en route.”
It remains unclear whether the private funeral service had already taken place or was scheduled for later that day.
Dolly’s representatives previously confirmed that her funeral would be a small private service for immediate family, honoring her wishes following her death on August 25 at age 80.
The singer died after a brief battle with cancer. She had reportedly been receiving treatment at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center after dealing with kidney and autoimmune issues.
Dolly Will Be Buried Beside Carl Dean

She is expected to be buried beside Carl Dean, her husband of 58 years, who died in March 2025 at age 82.
The couple’s names are already displayed together on a bronze memorial at the cemetery. The plaque features a peaceful Tennessee mountain scene, reflecting the place where they both grew up and spent much of their lives.
Woodlawn Memorial Park is also home to the graves of several other well-known country music figures, including Dolly’s longtime collaborator Porter Wagoner and her friend Tammy Wynette.
Dolly had also spoken about her own funeral wishes years before her death.
In a 2014 interview, she revealed that she wanted the country-gospel song If We Never Meet Again to be performed at her funeral. The song was especially meaningful to her because it had been her father’s favorite, and it was played at his funeral after his death in 2000.
Dolly’s nephew previously shared another personal detail about how she wanted to be remembered. According to Seaver, she wanted to be buried wearing a cotton dress and her signature high heels.
After spending decades wearing heavy rhinestones and glamorous stage outfits, Dolly had joked about wanting to finally rest comfortably.
