The British crime drama landed on Netflix in December and has engrossed viewers with its thrilling storylines. Stay Close’s frontman James Nesbitt starred as Detective Broome and gave viewers an insight into how some of the scenes came to be.

Stay Close is an the onscreen adaptation of a 2012 novel of the same name written by Harlan Coben.

The eight-part miniseries followed Detective Broome (played by James Nesbitt) as he worked to solve murder mysteries in the fictional town of Ridgewood.

As the burned-out officer discovered a link between a case and a 17-year old mystery, the buried secrets of ordinary people began to be revealed.

On the night Carlton Flynn was found dead after a carnival, Broome discovered Stewart Green (Rod Hunt) disappeared on the same day and decided to connect the dots.

As he looked through the old case files, Broome discovered other people had also gone missing on the day of the carnival and suspected it was the act of a serial killer.

Alongside his partner Erin Cartwright (Jo Joyner) who also happened to be his ex-wife, the team began to unravel the mystery.

However, as the case unfolded a photojournalist, mother of three and nightclub owner soon became linked and forced to relive their past.

While Broome’s professional life stayed busy his personal life blossomed as he found a love interest in Lorraine Griggs (Sarah Parish).

While the two had chemistry on screen, the actor revealed in a recent interview they got on well behind the scenes too.

Highlighting the moment Lorraine told the detective “You’re the man who says goodbye but never leaves,” James was asked if it was a fair comment about his character.

To which he responded: “Yes, which is very funny and very true.

He also revealed: “Sarah and I were given quite a bit of freedom to improvise at times to find the right mood and the moments, I really enjoyed that.”
