Andrea Bocelli delivered a deeply moving performance alongside an international children’s choir during “Canticle of Peace,” a special prayer concert led by Pope Leo XIV at Borgo Laudato Si’ in Castel Gandolfo on July 29. Organized by the Andrea Bocelli Foundation and the Laudato Si’ Higher Education Centre, the event combined music, prayer and faith in a heartfelt appeal for peace in a world marked by conflict.
Bocelli’s unmistakable tenor became the emotional centerpiece of the evening. Singing with warmth, power and remarkable control, the Italian maestro filled the gathering with an atmosphere of reverence and hope. Rather than focusing on spectacle, the performance allowed the music to speak for itself, with Bocelli’s soaring vocals blending seamlessly with the innocent voices of the ABF Voices choir. The choir featured 164 children and young people from communities affected by war, poverty and hardship, including participants from Israel, the West Bank, Uganda, Haiti and Italy. Many of the young singers have overcome extraordinary challenges, making their voices an especially powerful symbol of resilience, hope and reconciliation. Together, they transformed the concert into more than a musical performance—it became a testimony of faith and a shared prayer for peace.
The event also formed part of the celebrations marking the 800th anniversary of St. Francis of Assisi’s Canticle of the Creatures, with Pope Leo XIV leading prayers inspired by the saint’s message of fraternity, care for creation and love for one another. As Bocelli and the choir sang, the Holy Father invited those gathered to remember that lasting peace begins with dialogue, compassion and a willingness to see every person as a brother or sister in Christ.
