Dolly Parton will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Carl Dean, following her death at the age of 80.
The country music icon died Tuesday, Aug. 25. According to reports, Parton will be placed in the mausoleum at Woodlawn Memorial Park and Mausoleum in Nashville, Tennessee, where Dean was laid to rest.
Parton will reportedly be dressed in a cotton dress and her signature high heels for her final farewell, a fitting choice for a singer who became famous for her glamorous style, big hair and love of rhinestones.
Her nephew, Bryan Seaver, announced Parton’s death in an emotional Instagram video. Seaver, who worked as Parton’s head of security for more than two decades, also shared details about the private funeral planned by the family.
According to Parton’s official account, she requested that a small, private service be held for immediate family members. Her loved ones have encouraged fans around the world to honor her memory through social media or by leaving messages on her official website.
The family is also asking fans to make donations to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library instead of sending flowers.
Parton’s final resting place beside Dean carries special meaning. The couple married in Ringgold, Georgia, on May 30, 1966, and remained together for nearly six decades. They never had children and largely kept their marriage away from the spotlight.
Dean died in March 2025 at the age of 82 after a long period of health problems. Parton often spoke about how difficult it was to lose the man who had been her partner for most of her adult life.
In the months following Dean’s death, Parton also acknowledged that she had neglected her own health while caring for him.
“As I’ve shared in video messages throughout the past year, I am dealing with some health issues that I just didn’t pay attention to when I was watching over Carl,” she previously told PEOPLE.
Parton later faced several health setbacks of her own. She took a break from performing and canceled her planned Las Vegas residency after dealing with ongoing medical problems, including kidney stones.
According to reports, Parton was admitted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville on Friday, Aug. 21, just four days before her death. Reports said she was dealing with kidney and autoimmune issues.
Her death came as a shock to many of her loved ones, with reports indicating that some family members and close friends rushed to be with her after her condition suddenly worsened.
Despite the health challenges she faced, Parton remained determined to continue working and spoke about having more dreams she wanted to accomplish.
Now, her family is preparing to say goodbye in the private way she requested.
