A HIT-and-run cop killer could be among prisoners released early under Labour’s reforms.
Clayton Williams, then 19, was jailed for 20 years in 2016 after striking PC Dave Phillips with a stolen pick-up truck during a high-speed police chase.
The dad of two was thrown into the air and died almost instantly from “catastrophic” injuries in October 2015 at Wallasey, Merseyside.
The officer’s widow, Jen, cried as she read out her victim impact statement and said to cannabis addict Williams in court: “Who gave you the right to play God?”
She added: “I want you to know what you’ve done to me and my daughters.
“Tears flow as I cry myself to sleep every night. It’s soul destroying.
“I have to be strong for the sake of my children. How do I do that, when the children cry for their daddy?”
She said she cannot sleep at night and when she does “she dreams of her husband alive”.
Killers like Williams, who was convicted of manslaughter, currently serve at least two-thirds of their sentences behind bars.
But he may only have to do half of his term due to the Sentencing Act, which is set to kick in from September.
