And the result was far more than a simple remake.

It was the meeting of two country legends who had somehow managed to wait this long to finally sing together.

“It’s amazing that we’ve never done a duet,” McEntire admitted.

She had already recorded celebrated collaborations with artists including Vince Gill and Brooks & Dunn and even released an entire album built around duets.

Yet Dolly had remained the missing piece.

McEntire had performed for Parton on television programs, and Parton had done the same for her, but they had never stood together to record a song.

That finally changed with “Does He Love You.”

TWO COUNTRY LEGENDS — ONE VERY INTENSE SONG

The original “Does He Love You” had already become iconic, but Reba and Dolly gave the story a completely new energy.

The pair filmed a new music video that leaned heavily into the drama of the song, portraying two women caught in an emotional battle over the same man.

And McEntire absolutely loved playing the role.

“I love the acting,” she said.

Rather than simply standing behind microphones and trading vocals, the two stars embraced the theatrical side of the story.

They played women at odds with one another before eventually reaching a hilarious point of surrender:

“Ah, you can have him! Thunder, I don’t want him!”

It was dramatic, playful and unmistakably fun — but underneath the performance was something fans had been waiting years to see.

THE BEST PART WASN’T EVEN THE SINGING

For McEntire, one of the most memorable parts of the experience happened away from the cameras.

She loved singing with Parton, but what she treasured most was simply getting to spend time with her.

“My favorite part … was getting to visit with her in between,” McEntire said.

She described the experience of hanging out with Dolly almost like spending an afternoon with an old friend.

“She’s a professional, she’s fun, she’s funny, she’s witty,” McEntire said. “I can sit and listen to her talk all day long.”

That affection comes through in the collaboration.

There is no sense that this was simply two superstars being paired together for publicity.

There is chemistry, personality and a genuine enjoyment of finally getting the opportunity to work side by side.

AND THIS MAY NOT BE THE LAST TIME

Perhaps the most exciting part is that McEntire hopes the collaboration was only the beginning.

The two women talked about doing more projects together — something McEntire clearly wants to see happen.

And there is one performance she is especially eager for.

A live version.

“I can’t wait” for the chance to perform the duet with Dolly onstage, McEntire said, adding that she believes the fans would absolutely love it.

After all, “Does He Love You” already has decades of history behind it.

Now imagine those two voices standing together in front of a live audience, trading lines, playing up the drama and eventually laughing their way through the story.

Two country royalty figures.

One legendary song.

And a collaboration that somehow took decades to finally happen.
