BBC presenter Mark Chapman revealed what Wayne Rooney had on his World Cup notes before England’s clash with Argentina.
The TV host was quick to point out Rooney scribbling something down as Thomas Tuchel gave a pre-match interview.
Three Lions boss Tuchel had just explained why Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers was in his starting XI.
And Chappers put Wazza on the spot immediately, saying: “You’ve just written down on your notes that you really like the ‘it’s just a feeling’ when he talked about selecting Morgan Rogers.”
Former captain Rooney responded: “I like that.
“Normally managers look at tactically how they want to play and how fresh the players are and how ready they are.
“But I think that top managers go on a feeling.
“He obviously has a feeling Morgan Rogers can have a big impact on this game.
“That’s what he believes and he’s gone with it. I really like that.”
Rogers was picked as a surprise inclusion into the team – his first start of the tournament.
And Tuchel was impressed with the attacker, who he put in the line-up ahead of Noni Madueke and Bukayo Saka on the right wing.
German coach Tuchel said: “It’s a feeling from the coach – a gut feeling. I feel that he has something special to give today.
“I felt he was very strong in the match against Norway.
“In between, he had outstanding training sessions to follow up on that performance. It’s just a feeling.”
And pundit Micah Richards added: “The good thing with Morgan Rogers is he can come off the left, he can play in the centre and he can come off the right and do all those roles effectively.
“That’s the most important thing about it.”
Rogers, a serious summer target for Arsenal, justified his position by assisting Anthony Gordan’s opener in Atlanta.
But it was heartbreak for the VIlla star as he saw Enzo Fernandez and Lautaro Martinez strike late to turn it around for Argentina and send them into the final against Spain.
