That contestant was Lewis Thomas from Port Talbot, Wales.
After surviving the final challenge, Lewis walked away as the episode’s 1% Club winner — and with the full £98,000 cash prize.
Viewers watching at home were quick to admit they had struggled with the question just as much as the contestants.
One fan confessed they had simply guessed because they ran out of time.
Another said they had performed better than usual but still answered five, adding that time was the real enemy.
A third admitted they had come closer than ever to getting a perfect result but still found some of the questions difficult to see.
And one particularly confident viewer had a very different reaction:
“I got the 1% question. Give me the money!”
It Wasn’t The First Recent ‘Massacre’
The brutal final came after another 1% Club episode had already left viewers stunned when a single question eliminated 21 contestants.
That puzzle asked:
“What replaces the question mark in this sentence?”
The words displayed were:
“Hot, hard, small, cold, easy.”
Contestants were then given three possible answers: big, fast or slow.
The correct answer?
Big.
The question wiped out so many players that one viewer branded the round a “massacre.”
And that is exactly what makes The 1% Club so difficult.
The questions rarely look complicated at first glance.
Sometimes, the fewer words you have to work with, the more dangerous the question becomes.
