Luke Bryan and Luke Combs have finally shared a song together, and they picked a very country subject for their first collaboration: heartbreak, a barstool, and a cold beer.
“Finders Keepers” opens Bryan’s new album Signs, released September 18, 2026. The upbeat track brings together two of country music’s biggest Lukes for the first time, turning a familiar breakup scenario into a loose, good-humored drinking song.
A long-awaited “Luke & Luke” moment
“Finders Keepers” was written by Jimi Bell, Beau Bailey and Sam Ellis. It serves as the first of the 12 tracks on Signs, Bryan’s ninth studio album.
The song centers on a familiar country-music scene: a man dealing with the end of a relationship while sitting at a bar, trying to accept that his former partner has moved on. Rather than dwelling entirely on the heartbreak, the song turns the situation into a night of drinking with friends, a good band playing and plenty of cold beer.
That combination fits Bryan particularly well. The track is energetic and playful, with the kind of easygoing barroom spirit that has long been part of his musical identity.
And while “Finders Keepers” may not be aiming for the emotional weight of a classic like “Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain,” it knows exactly what it wants to be: a fun country drinking song built around a catchy hook and two familiar voices.
The central idea is summed up by the song’s refrain, which plays on the familiar phrase “finders keepers” by turning the other half into “losers, drinkers.” The narrator essentially tells his heartbroken friend that he may have lost the girl, but at least the beer is cold and the night is still young.
Bryan knew exactly who he wanted
The collaboration came together remarkably quickly.
Speaking with Cody Alan on Highway Mornings, Bryan explained that he had already recorded the song when he realized the album needed a collaboration. He immediately thought of Luke Combs.
Bryan sent Combs the track with a message that was essentially a no-pressure invitation to hear it and give him his thoughts.
Combs’ response was immediate: he was in.
That left Bryan with the slightly unexpected problem of figuring out how to make the collaboration happen on a tight deadline. The album was already moving toward completion, so Combs had to record his vocals quickly enough for the song to make the final album.
Bryan joked that the rushed schedule probably made things a little hectic for Combs, but he was ultimately thrilled that they managed to get everything finished in time.
The result became the opening track on Signs.
Bryan had wanted to work with Combs for years
For Bryan, this collaboration was something he had been hoping to make happen for quite a while.
In his announcement of the song, Bryan said he had always wanted to record with Combs. The two had become friends over the years, and he had been looking forward to creating what he described as a “Luke & Luke moment.”
The opportunity arrived when Bryan was in the studio working on Signs. His manager played him “Finders Keepers,” and the song immediately caught his attention.
Bryan recorded his part on the fly and then sent the song to Combs.
Combs apparently needed little convincing. After hearing it, he called Bryan back and agreed to take part.
Bryan also made a point of thanking Bell, Bailey and Ellis for continuing to push the song and making sure it eventually reached him.
The collaboration therefore came together from a fairly simple idea: Bryan heard a song he loved, realized Combs was the person he wanted beside him on it, and moved quickly to make it happen.
The first track sets the tone for Signs
“Finders Keepers” isn’t the only song on Signs, of course, but its position at the front of the album gives it an important role.
