Emmett J. Scanlan has announced that he has started filming the next series of the Irish crime drama, Kin. The former Hollyoaks actor, 47, starred as Jimmy Kinsella in the first two seasons and will reprise the role for the upcoming third instalment. The series follows the Kinsellas, a fictional Dublin family embroiled in gangland war. Forced to face off against a rival cartel, the Kinsellas vow to protect all that they hold dear, portraying the unbreakable bonds of blood and family.
Fans will no doubt be delighted that the show is returning, with Emmett suggesting the upcoming series could be “the best one yet”. In a video shared on Instagram, the Mobland star said: “This has been years in the making and I’m utterly grateful that I get to finally say day one, season three of Kin, now. The feeling is good. The view from my apartment is Ireland. The view is Dublin.
“This journey might very well prove to be the best one yet.” Season three of Kin will air in 2027.
Kin was first broadcast on RTÉ One in 2021 and became one of the most-watched series in Ireland. Season two was released in 2023 and the show was acquired by the BBC the same year.
The series also stars Charlie Cox, Clare Dunne, Aidan Gillen, Maria Doyle Kennedy and Sam Keeley.
The official synopsis for the upcoming series reads: “KIN Season three reunites the nation with the Kinsella crime family. As they consolidate power, buried betrayals and festering rivalries turn inward, and the greatest threat to the family empire becomes the family itself.”
Speaking about the show’s return, Clare, who plays Amanda Kinsella told Goss.ie: “We are so delighted to have it come back. I was on the phone to Charlie [Cox] the other day in America, and he’s thrilled.

“I think he always loves bringing his kids over to Ireland, actually, for the summer holidays. Yeah, [I’m] just really looking forward to being with all the crew again as well. The crew are amazing.”
The show has received glowing reviews from fans, with one writing on X: “Finally got round to bingeing series 1 of #kin. My god I’m hooked! What a masterpiece!! And beautifully acted Someone please take BBC iplayer away from me I can’t stop.”
Another penned on IMDb: “This is the best thing the BBC has made in a while. Scorsese would be proud. Even the use of music is perfect, meaningful. It has everything: sadness, betrayal, love… and the story told like a true Irish Bard.”
