Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl LX Halftime Show Makes Emmy History With Seven Wins
Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl LX halftime show has become the most-awarded halftime performance in Emmy history, taking home seven Emmys at the first night of the 2026 Emmy ceremonies on Saturday, September 5.
The haul gave Bad Bunny his first Emmy Award and recognized the extensive production work behind his Apple Music halftime performance, which aired during Super Bowl LX at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, on February 8, 2026. The Television Academy confirmed the show as the night’s top winner.
Bad Bunny Takes Seven Trophies
Bad Bunny and his team won Outstanding Variety Special (Live), along with six additional awards for the production.
The halftime show was recognized for:
- Outstanding Variety Special (Live)
- Outstanding Music Direction
- Outstanding Choreography for Variety or Reality Programming
- Outstanding Sound Mixing
- Outstanding Lighting Design/Lighting Direction
- Outstanding Technical Direction and Camerawork
- Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special
Bad Bunny was credited as both a performer and producer of the production. His win in the live variety category marked his first Emmy.
The seven victories also established a new record for the most Emmys won by a Super Bowl halftime performance. The achievement surpassed the previous high set by the 2022 Super Bowl LVI halftime show, which featured Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar and 50 Cent.
Bad Bunny’s show was also the third Super Bowl halftime performance to win Outstanding Variety Special (Live), following the 2022 production and Kendrick Lamar’s 2025 halftime show.
Sabrina Carpenter Earns Her First Emmy
Bad Bunny was not the only music star celebrating a first Emmy.
Sabrina Carpenter won her first Emmy for her work as a performer and executive producer on Disney+’s The Muppet Show reboot. The production received the award for Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded).
Carpenter’s special prevailed over Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour | The Final Show in the category. The Muppet Show was among the other major winners during the opening night of this year’s Emmy ceremonies.
Jay-Z Adds Another Emmy
Jay-Z, who served as a producer on Bad Bunny’s halftime show through Roc Nation, also added another Emmy to his collection.
The win marked his third Emmy. He had previously received recognition for his involvement with earlier Super Bowl halftime productions, including Kendrick Lamar’s 2025 show and the 2022 Super Bowl LVI halftime performance.
Kendrick Lamar’s 2025 halftime show had previously set the benchmark for Super Bowl performances in the Emmy race, winning Outstanding Music Direction while also receiving a nomination for Outstanding Variety Special (Live).
More Major Winners on Emmy Night One
The first night of the 2026 Emmy ceremonies also brought several other notable victories.
The reality competition series The Traitors was among the evening’s biggest winners, collecting six awards. The Late Show with Stephen Colbert followed with five Emmys for episodes from its final season.
The Billy Joel documentary And So It Goes also earned an Emmy for Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Nonfiction Program.
Meanwhile, the Saturday Night Live episode hosted by Bad Bunny received an Emmy for Outstanding Makeup for a Variety, Nonfiction or Reality Program. Bad Bunny does not receive that award himself, however, as it recognizes the makeup team responsible for the episode.
Bad Bunny’s seven-award night nonetheless stands apart. His Super Bowl performance arrived at the Emmys as a major live-production contender and left with victories across both the headline live-special category and six of the production categories that helped bring the performance to the screen.
