11 Contestants Knocked Out By Just TWO Ordinary Words On The 1% Club — Can You Spot What They Missed In Only 30 Seconds? Lee Mack presented what looked like one of the easiest challenges of the night, using just the words HIGHER and LOWER. The task? Combine their letters in an alternating pattern before the clock runs out. Sounds simple enough, right? But this seemingly harmless 70% question caught 11 contestants completely off guard!

The 1% Club Leaves 11 Contestants Stumped By Tricky Letter Puzzle – Can You Crack It In Just 30 Seconds?

One seemingly simple word puzzle was enough to derail 11 contestants on The 1% Club, as players struggled to spot the correct pattern under pressure.

The ITV quiz show, hosted by Lee Mack, is known for putting contestants through increasingly challenging brainteasers. But its latest 70% question proved particularly troublesome, with a sizeable group failing to work out the answer before the clock ran out.

Quiz question: Alternating letters of HIGHER and LOWER. Options: HLOIWGEHERR, HLIOGWHEERR, HLIOWGEHERR.

A Simple Word Puzzle That Caught Players Off Guard

The challenge sounded straightforward when Lee presented it to the audience:

“If you write the words HIGHER and LOWER with alternating letters, what do you get?”

Contestants were then shown three seemingly jumbled combinations and given just 30 seconds to identify the correct one.

The options were:

  • A) HLOIWGEHERR
  • B) HLIOGWEERR
  • C) HLIOWGEHERR

Despite having half a minute to study the letters, 11 players failed to crack the puzzle.

Lee kept the atmosphere light with a joke during the countdown, quipping: “I think that first one is the name of Hagrid’s German cousin.”

11 Contestants Fail To Find The Correct Combination

The question appeared on the programme’s 70% level, meaning those who had progressed that far faced another test of their ability to recognise patterns and think quickly.

However, the unusual arrangement of letters proved enough to catch 11 contestants out.

For those still trying to work it out, the trick was to alternate between the two words, taking one letter from HIGHER and then one from LOWER.

The correct answer was B) HLIOGWEERR.

The sequence begins with the first letter of HIGHER, followed by the first letter of LOWER. The same pattern continues with the second letters, then the third, and so on until both words have been used.

Quiz question: Alternating letters of HIGHER and LOWER. Correct answer: HIGHER LOWER.

The 1% Club Has Stumped Contestants Before

The latest puzzle is far from the first time The 1% Club has left its contestants scratching their heads.

In another episode, players were challenged with a picture-based question involving the famous pub from Coronation Street.

Lee Mack asked: “What is the difference between these two images?”

The audience was shown two pictures of the Corrie pub, with one subtle detail separating them.

The difference was in the pub’s name. While one image showed the familiar Rovers, the other displayed Ravers.

Lee explained: “The image on the right shows Ravers instead of Rovers.”

Even a seemingly familiar television landmark was enough to catch players off guard.

With its mix of word puzzles, visual challenges and unexpected twists, The 1% Club continues to test just how quickly contestants can spot details that others might overlook.

So, would you have spotted the correct HIGHER and LOWER combination in just 30 seconds?
