A detective thriller series is lauded as an “unexpected gem”, with fans saying it “keeps you guessing”. Miss Scarlet and the Duke, hit the small screen 2020 and stars Kate Phillips as the titular Eliza Scarlet, a sleuth in Victorian London.
Scarlet is left with almost penniless after her father’s unexpected death, and decides to take over his detective agency on her own, raising eyebrows at a time when women’s employment prospects were severely limited. She forms an intriguing bond with William Wellington, nicknamed “The Duke” (Stuart Martin), a Scotland Yard police officer and childhood friend who helps her solve cases.
